Commercial Roofing Business Booming
The commercial roofing business is booming at Spokane Roofing Company, and owner Jeff Sitton feels the time is right to get bigger and better.
More roofs, bigger projects—that is our goal,
said Sitton. We are a top-five commercial roofing company in this area, and we are aiming higher.
To that end, Sitton’s company recently became certified to install Elevate’s roofing systems, a huge leap forward. Elevate manufactures all major roofing systems. It is a particularly large producer of TPO and EPDM products, staples of the commercial roofing industry in the areas served by Spokane Roofing.
Now, we can bid on 90% of the commercial, industrial and institutional roofing projects available. I am proud to say that we are certified by nearly all of the major manufacturers, including Elevate, GAF, Versico, Tremco, Polyglass, and United Coatings.
Getting Elevate-certified is a sign of our success serving building owners, corporate facility managers, architects and structural engineers. GAF and Elevate are the industry leaders in production of commercial roofing systems. This shows that we have made enough of an impact to get their attention.
Different suppliers in the area use different manufacturers. We have to be certified in each one to be able to purchase and use those products. There are different levels of roofing contractor certification. We are striving to reach master contractor and master elite contractor levels with all of our roofing materials partners.
The certification process is complicated. Put simply, manufacturers’ representatives are always looking for superior roofing contractors in a particular area. The way to get to the top is to work on more commercial roofs. Advancing in the process generally requires installing and maintaining millions of square feet of roofs.
I think we are really on the right track. We maintain about 1.5 million square feet of commercial roofs, and our portfolio is growing. Representatives know who is doing well here. They know who is offering quality installation and service of their products.
Even in recent recessionary times, Spokane Roofing Company stayed busy. SRC’s market share has steadily increased, but Sitton is not satisfied. Because building architects typically determine which roofing product they want on their structures, he works closely with many of the top commercial architects in the area, including NAC, Copeland, and ALSC.
The roofing business is not unique—you are either shrinking or you are growing. We are not interested in shrinking,
Sitton said. I would like to install at least one million square feet of Elevate roofs in the next year, in addition to the work we are already doing with our other roofing manufacturers.
We have made big strides in the past two years, better than I expected. More than ever, I am driven to grow the company. That means installing and maintaining all the products for which we are certified, and opening up an increasing number of commercial roofing projects by doing the high quality work that Spokane Roofing Company is known for.
